Niman's Way Candleworks is pleased to use this page to describe our new fragrances.
The tradition of selling red poppies to benefit servicemen in need started with Moina Micheal in 1915 in the United States.
She was inspired by the poem, In Flanders Fields by Lt. Col John McCrae, a Canadian, who survived the horrors of battle
during WWI. Her four line poem, in response, is this: "We cherish too, the Poppy Red, that grows on
fields were valor led, It seems to signal to the skies, That blood of heroes never dies." We are honored to include
"Where Valor Led" in this collection.

Statuesque, she is in place among the shallows of a dune, as the bronze of her coat conceals her against
the sand. With dark, clear eyes, she scans the brush and hills looking for game. She tenses when she sees irregular
movement in the heat waves rising off the desert shelf. With muscles tight, she drops slightly. Then she
uncoils in a fury of speed, splashing sand as she becomes focused on nothing but the hunt. Within three strides,
she is settled into the elongation of her sprint: her eyes following the movement of the prey. Still accelerating into
a turn, instantly, she pivots, using her momentum and force to strike. The hunt is done. She stands over
her kill, with the wind rippling her silken coat. As she pants, she turns her head, looking over the distance she has
come, and locks eyes with her handler. For that moment, he knows this dog, this animal who seems to travel on air, is
the one every man wants but only few will possess..The Desert Ghost...The Afghan.
